Expressway Spares’ company bash car will be hitting the road in May to raise awareness and funds for Variety – The Children’s Charity.
Expressway Spares’ Gunnedah Branch Manager Anthony Smith will be jumping behind the wheel of the spruced up 1978 Ford Falcon and cruising from Gunnedah all the way up to Bymount, before heading back to Newcastle as part of the 2024 Variety NSW Bash.
From Sunday 19 to Saturday May 25, the Expressway Spares car along with hundreds of other vintage cars will be exploring the dirt roads of NSW and visiting country towns, all to support kids to get a fair go.
Joining Anthony along for the ride will be his mates, Billy Jeffery, Area Manager at Emeco, and Michael Considine, Maintenance Supervisor at Whitehaven’s Vickery Mine. They will be driving the Expressway Spares’ bash car ‘The Froggy Wrecker’ which has been named in dedication to Expressway Spares founder, Gerard Cassegrain.
“Expressway Spares have gone above and beyond to make this happen,” said Anthony.
“From providing the use of the vehicle, allowing time off work, to helping us to get the message out there for this great cause.
“Billy and Michael’s employers have also stepped up, with both Emeco and Whitehaven generously donating to the cause and offering support.”
Anthony said they are aiming to raise as much as they can and hope that the North West community will get behind them to support Variety – The Children’s Charity.
However, the Bash is more than just fundraising.
It is also about raising awareness, so over the seven days of the event, participants will visit local towns, stopping in at schools and organisations to visit local kids. Bashers get to see the direct impact of their fundraising efforts along the way, with a range of educational, health and mobility equipment provided to local schools and organisations enroute.
“I remember as a kid growing up when the Variety Bash would roll through town. It brought so much joy and excitement. I’m thankful to Expressway Spares to have given me the opportunity to be a part of that.”
