Carrie's Place @ The Coalface

Every workplace wants to be safe, supportive and productive. But what happens when the biggest risks to safety aren’t on the job site but at home?

Carrie’s Place Domestic Violence and Homelessness Service is offering a practical and powerful solution: Leadership and Corporate Domestic, Family & Sexual Violence Awareness Training – a program designed specifically for workplace leaders, human resource professionals, WHS specialists and supervisors managing people.

This isn’t about ticking boxes. It’s about giving your staff the tools to recognise the signs of violence, respond appropriately and foster a safer, more informed working environment for all.

Why It Matters in the Workplace

Domestic and family violence doesn’t stay at home. It affects attendance, performance, safety and workplace culture. In fact, 1 in 6 working women in Australia have experienced or are experiencing violence, and many continue to show up to work without support.

“Every business can make a difference,” said Carrie’s Place CEO, Jayne Clowes.

“This training gives people the confidence to have conversations they might otherwise avoid, and it creates stronger, safer teams.”

With domestic and sexual violence impacting employees across every sector – from mining and manufacturing to office-based roles – this course helps companies meet their duty of care, while also contributing to a broader cultural shift toward respect and safety.

What the Training Covers

Delivered by experienced practitioners from Carrie’s Place, this half-day course provides:

  • Education around gender stereotypes, power dynamics and violence prevention
  • Real-world case studies, practical tools and referral pathways
  • Strategies for responding safely and appropriately to disclosures
  • Self-care tools for staff exposed to trauma in their roles
  • A certificate of completion for participants
  • The knowledge that training fees help fund frontline support services

More Than Training: A Community Impact

Carrie’s Place not only delivers the training but also reinvests proceeds back into essential programs that directly support women and families escaping violence. That means your business isn’t just learning, you’re actively helping to break the cycle in your own community.

Empowered teams build stronger workplaces, and stronger workplaces build safer communities.

If you’d like to strengthen your people-first culture, reduce risk and be part of long-term change, this is a meaningful step forward.

Family, domestic and sexual violence takes many forms, and it can affect anyone, in all types of relationships. Controlling behaviour, which is also known as coercive control, can make you do or believe things you wouldn’t normally. Physical violence is any violent behaviour or threats of violence, and it can be directed at you, your children, other family, friends, pets or even property. Sexual assault is any sexual behaviour you don’t want, such as being forced into sexual activity against your will or inappropriate touching. This includes being coerced or manipulated into sexual behaviour. Emotional abuse is any behaviour that makes you feel worthless and put down. This can include yelling, insulting, calling you names or a slur and swearing and financial abuse is behaviour limiting your access to money. Any type of violence or abuse is never OK.
