New funding is now available for community groups and not-for-profit organisations in the Moranbah, Middlemount, Moura, Banana and Theodore areas through Anglo American’s 2026 Community Grants Program.
Anglo American Australia Vice President of People and Corporate Relations Ben Mansour said the Community Grants Program reinforced the long-term commitment to regional communities where the company operated.
“Our Community Grants Program backs the people and organisations who are shaping the future of Central Queensland,” Ben said.
“We are passionate about creating enduring value in the communities where we operate, and this is one of the many ways we help strengthen connection, wellbeing and opportunities now and for generations to come.”
In 2025, 49 community organisations across Anglo American’s operational footprint in Queensland shared in almost $500,000 to support initiatives across sport, education, health and community connectedness.
Moranbah Arts Council was among those recipients, receiving $23,000 toward a new modern stage with enhanced functionality and mobility.
Moranbah Arts president Amanda Raymond said the new stage had been a turning point, allowing the organisation to expand its offering for the local community.
She said the stage had already played host to live band nights, comedy events and open mic sessions, attracting about 150 people to one of the youth-focused performances and providing rehearsal space for local musicians.
“Moranbah Arts has been part of this town since 1974. We provide a space for arts, culture and community groups,” she said.
“If the community wants it, we try to make it happen. We needed a stage to open up both spaces and make them truly multi-purpose but we simply couldn’t afford it on our own.
“The funding took us to another level. It turned something we were only dreaming about into something the whole community could use.
“When you build something like this, people use it. It brought people together and created opportunities for local talent. Everyone walks in and is blown away. People are using it; they love it.”
Anglo American social performance specialist Kristy Purdon, based in Moranbah, said the program was designed to deliver lasting community benefit.
“We look for projects that strengthen the five communities where we operate across Central Queensland – Moranbah, Middlemount, Moura, Banana and Theodore,” she said.
“We encourage organisations who apply to be clear about their project, how it will benefit the community and what they want to achieve.
“It could be for an event, infrastructure upgrades, increased facilities or services within an organisation but the application must provide clarity about how the outcome will make a difference to the community.”
