Members of the Singleton PCYC and Youth Engagement Officers are enjoying their newly updated outdoor area, thanks to a $2,900 donation from Ashton Coal mine.

This funding enabled the purchase of a new five burner BBQ and outdoor dining setting. These additions have created a calm and comfortable outdoor space, where youth who are visiting the centre can take some respite, enjoy a meal, and chat with one of the PCYC representatives.

Singleton PCYC has 950 members, including 650 junior members who are actively involved in over twenty activities at the centre. Every day it aims to engage with, and positively influence, its youth members through sport, recreation, education, leadership and cultural programs.

Club Manager David Andrew was delighted with the funding to improve the centre.

“Over the past six years we have been gradually upgrading and improving our centre, including a new air conditioning system, bathroom renovations and repainting our main hall.

“We also recognised the need to improve our outside respite area. We wanted to make it more functional and create a space where we can relax and mentor our youth members.

“The new dining setting not only looks good, but it is also sturdy, safe and a good size, allowing at least six people to sit down comfortably and the new BBQ is a fantastic addition as it allows us to cook for everyone and bring people together socially to chat and to get to know each other over a sausage sandwich.

“We are largely run by volunteers, so greatly appreciate any funding support from the community. Thank you to Ashton Coal for their donation to purchase these much-needed items.”

Police Citizens Youth Club NSW (PCYC) is a charity empowering young people to reach their potential through Police and community partnerships. It has been serving the young people of the Singleton district for 55 years. In addition, PCYC Singleton works with youth-at-risk to break the cycle of disadvantage through crime prevention, vocational education, youth capacity building, and social responsibility programs to change the life and wellbeing outcomes for young people.

Ashton Coal Operations Manager, Michael Bartlett, was happy to financially assist the centre.

“We have a long history of supporting Singleton PCYC, funding various projects throughout the years. They operate a vital service in our community, motivating the youth in our area to get active, and developing their skills in a safe, fun and friendly environment.

“We are proud to donate the funds to upgrade their outdoor dining area so community members are more comfortable and can stay longer.”
