Community Champion – Jaeda Maris Fajardo Navarro

Jaeda may only be 13 years old, but she is already making a huge impact in her community of Moranbah. This young lady is not only a talented artist, musician and athlete, but she is also a community champion who volunteers her time to make a difference in the lives of others.

Jaeda is a true inspiration to the youth of her community and beyond and was announced the winner of the 2023 Moranbah Inspiring Young Women in the Isaac Awards.

She moved to Moranbah with her family due to her father’s work, but she quickly fell in love with the peace and quiet that the mining town had to offer.

“For me, the best things about living in a mining town is that it’s more peaceful and quieter, away from hustle and bustle,” she said. “People are united, look after each other and have more time for family.”

Despite her busy schedule, which includes school, art, music, sports, and gymnastics, Jaeda still finds time to give back to her community and is always a smiling face at community events.

When asked about what motivates her to volunteer, she replied, “I love to see happy people. I want to contribute and help even in my own little way, and I know that what I am doing will make a difference. It gives me a sense of fulfilment, happiness, and helps me learn a lot of things as well whenever I volunteer in the community.”

One of Jaeda’s biggest accomplishments is her band, Jam N’ Butter, which she formed with her sister, Jixie, and friends Sam and Dale.

They’ve been together for three years now and have already performed at Filipino parties and community events. The band is currently working on their first original song, and Jaeda is excited to share their own compositions and express themselves to the world.

When asked about her future plans, Jaeda said she has a couple of things in mind but couldn’t make a final decision yet. She’s considering becoming an architect, a singer/musician, or a cartoonist/animator. Whatever she chooses to pursue, it’s clear that she will continue to inspire and make a positive impact in her community.

Jaeda’s ability to juggle her school workload and extra-curricular activities is impressive, but she credits her family’s support and her love for music as her life-saver and best friend when she feels stressed or overwhelmed.

“Whenever I am working on something, I plug in my headphones and forget every negative thing that’s filling my mind and before I know it, I’m already done,” she said.

She proves that age is just a number, and that anyone can make a difference no matter how young they are. We can all learn from her dedication, passion, and commitment to making the world a better place.
