Hunter Valley December 2022

As 2022 comes to a close it’s time to say goodbye, but don’t worry as we will be back with a bang in 2023!

Christmas is the time to celebrate but it’s also the time to reflect on the year that’s been. For our mining industry there’s been a few lows, but a lot more highs.

This month sees the conclusion of 27 years of continuous Thiess operations at Mt Owen. While it’s time to say farewell, it’s also a time to celebrate the success of the last 27 years and acknowledge all the people throughout the years who have played a key part in their success.

As one door shuts, another opens. Or rather, another shovel hits the ground. The sod turn event at Maxwell Underground Mine on Friday November 25 is a significant milestone for both the mine and Upper Hunter community and is a cause for celebration. This project will generate much needed jobs for the region in both its construction and operational phases.

In 2022, we continued to see our industry make leaps and bounds in environmental standards and rehabilitation, innovation and technology, diversity and inclusion, and above all else, prioritising the health and safety of our workers. We can’t wait to see what we will achieve in 2023.

From all of us @ The Coalface, it’s been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to bring you the community and industry stories of the Hunter for another year. Have a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
