Growing demand for occupational medical services has seen a new provider enter the Gunnedah region. CS Health, a business unit of Coal Services, officially opened its local premises on Tuesday, 6 September.

Located on the grounds of the Gunnedah Hospital, CS Health will open for business on Monday, 19 September to provide services to mining operators and contractors in the North West mining region.

CS Health General Manager, Kirsty Bates said that the Gunnedah office will initially focus on statutory medicals for coal miners, but they plan to extend their offering to further support worker health and wellbeing.

“Up until now we have been providing periodic health monitoring to workers in the region via our mobile health vans while pre-placement medicals have been delivered by the local doctor network. By having a dedicated occupational health office in the region, we hope to relieve pressures on local medical services whose primary focus is general medicine for the wider community.

“Here, we will provide specialised, occupational health medicals that workers need before working at a mine site. The office is closer to home for workers, so they don’t need to travel significant distances to access these services at our other locations.”

“We look forward to working with the local industry and wider community to better understand how we can support them through additional services in the future.”

The official opening was held prior to becoming operational to enable industry and community stakeholders to visit the facilities.

Lucy Flemming, Coal Services’ Managing Director/CEO officially opened the premises and added, “There are more than 2,600 people involved in the production of coal in the Gunnedah region and the reach of the industry into the community is extensive. It is vital for workers, their families and the community at large that their health and safety is protected. Coal Services is proud to officially be part of the community and working with mine operators to continue to protect the health and safety of workers in the industry.”
