Coal Centre Stage
Singleton Showground will be centre stage for Hunter Coal Festival festivities when it hosts the Singleton Community Day on Saturday, October 29.
The Singleton Community Day is traditionally the coal festival’s biggest community gathering and this year it is scheduled to be the festival’s final event following the Careers and Innovation Expo at TAFE NSW Muswellbrook on Friday, October 21 and the Mining Leaders Lunch at the Singleton Civic Centre on Friday, October 28.
The Singleton Community Day is designed to be a celebration of the co-existence between the mining industry and community with family-orientated entertainment and activities featuring throughout the day.
The showground will be centre stage for children’s activities, industry sponsor community engagement and educational displays, bus tours to local mine sites and tug of war.
Jumping castles and other children’s activities will line the showground oval and popular children’s entertainers, Little Scallywagz, will return to delight the younger members of the community with two shows on the day.
As a major drawcard, the showground will also come alive with the thrilling aerial antics of the Freestyle Kings Motorcross Show. The professional motorcross riders are scheduled to perform three shows throughout the day.
Mining industry sponsors also play a large role at the Singleton Community Day with displays interacting directly with the community; most of the sponsors, which include all mining companies operating in the Upper Hunter and various suppliers, are expected to exhibit.
Mine tours are also scheduled to operate on the day with buses transporting interested community members from the showground to nearby sites where they can see a working mine first-hand.
Entrance to the Singleton Community Day and access to all the entertainment activities will be free. The Singleton Community Day is an alcohol-free event; strictly no alcohol is to be brought into the Singleton Showground.
