This month we have so many amazing achievements from our mining industry and our region to share.

First up, congratulations are in order to Dan Repacholi, our new Federal Member for Hunter. It could not be more fitting than having a former coal miner represent our region and we are looking forward to seeing what Dan achieves in the coming years. You can also hear from the man himself about his aims for our region in this month’s edition.

The 2022 Hunter Safety Awards ceremony was held in person for the first time post pandemic. Businesses and individuals were recognised for their dedication and innovation across thirteen different categories of health and safety. Fenech Demolition were the stars of the night walking away with two wins, but every single business and person that makes safety a priority is a winner in our book.

The finalists for the 2022 NSW Women in Mining Awards were also announced, with BHP’s Mt Arthur Coal once again proving to be home to some of our industry’s most exceptional women with not one, but two finalists. Congratulations to both Samar and Ebony and to all the other amazing finalists.

In May, Schlam reached the milestone of manufacturing its 1,500th Hercules dump body in Australia. The Hercules in question was delivered to a client here in the Hunter Valley, adding to the well over 250 Hercules dump bodies that have been manufactured and delivered to our region. Schlam CEO Matt Thomas said that it was all thanks to their dedicated and hardworking team who are proof that when you work together, anything is possible.

Speaking of milestones, we were proud to share Muswellbrook Coal reaching an impressive 6.5 years without a lost time injury. When it comes to achievements, going home safely at the end of the day is the most important one of all.

So enjoy this month’s edition, and more importantly, stay safe.
