Winter is here and while the days and nights are getting colder, our mining industry is on fire as always providing opportunities and support to our region and community.
Whitehaven’s Tarrawonga Mine welcomed a group of Year 10 students from Gunnedah High School to see first-hand how what they learn at school can translate into a range of potential mining careers. Head Teacher of Science and Agriculture at Gunnedah High School, Nicole Dwyer, expressed how invaluable the opportunity was for the students.
Speaking of opportunities, former coal miner and swimming legend, Craig Clarke is finally set to live his lifelong dream of swimming the English Channel solo in July 2022. Craig has dreamt of completing the 34km swim since his teenage years, and after many setbacks due to Covid, the avid swimmer finally has the opportunity to take on the challenge and will be flying out in just a few short weeks.
We’re pleased to share the NSW Independent Planning Commission approved Whitehaven’s Narrabri Stage 3 Extension Project on April 1st, a decision that will see the continuation of skilled jobs at the mine and further economic benefit and support to the local community for years to come.
One of the biggest local events of the year is back from August 16 to 18 in Gunnedah after a Covid induced hiatus. AgQuip is Australia’s largest primary industry event with this year marking its 50th anniversary. The premier agricultural event provides Australian agriculture the opportunity to showcase and demonstrate over 3,000 products and services, highlight new technology and innovation, and provide information to professionals on the land. Over 100,000 visitors come along to enjoy it and we can’t wait to be one of them.
