This month we have seen the mining industry give some incredible donations and we have never been prouder of our industry’s support for people in need.
Locally, Glencore have once again shown their generosity and commitment to supporting the communities they operate in, donating a whopping $2 million towards The Salvation Army’s 2022 Flood Appeal. It’s just one of many donations Glencore has made in recent years to communities affected by floods, bushfires and drought.
Globally, mining companies are stepping up and giving extraordinary donations to the humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. These enormous donations will be used to provide emergency relief and longer-term humanitarian support to people and communities affected by the unfolding crisis in Ukraine.
Support comes in many forms. This month we also look at how Glencore and Yancoal are both kickstarting the careers of future generations through their employment and training programs. Like all our mining companies, Glencore and Yancoal are committed to providing career paths for young people and ensuring that the workforce of tomorrow is diverse and highly skilled.
Supporting young people is also something that the Upper Hunter Youth Services (UHYS) excels at. Our community gift recipient for this month, UHYS are putting the donation towards a ‘Fun Day’ to be held at Muswellbrook Showground on April 12. The event is part of their celebrations for Youth Week and is an opportunity for young people in the community to come together and support one another.
Who will you support this month?
You many notice the magazine feels and looks a little different this month. Unfortunately, due to worldwide paper shortages our usual paper stock is unavailable. So don’t judge our magazine by its paper, it’s what’s on it that counts!
