Tell us about the business?

Mitsubishi Liftrucks Australia, MLA, is a leading supplier in the sale hire and service support of material handling equipment. We are the exclusive Australian distributor of three complementary brands – Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks, Nichiyu Electric Forklift and MLA Vulcan Equipment. We operate our business nationally through seven MLA owned branches and an extensive regional authorised dealer network.

How long have you been doing business?

MLA Holdings Pty Ltd was established in 1980 with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, for the sale and distribution of Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks in Australia.

The company has been operating in Australia since then for 41 years and now has the core business in the sale, hire and service support of materials handling equipment Australia-wide.

MLA has forged a reputation for excellence in customer service, safety, operational reliability, engineering and equipment maintenance.

How many people work for the business?

MLA employs over 150 people from all over the country. From our apprentices, technicians, office staff, sales and service teams, everyone at MLA is part of a large team.

Describe a typical day at ‘The office’.

MLA provides aftersales service and support to our customer base nationwide, including preventative service maintenance and repair of our customer’s materials handling equipment.

What’s the best thing about the business?

MLA prides itself on delivering on the promises surrounding aftersales, service and support to maintain relationships after the equipment is supplied.

The worst thing?

I think I could speak for many of business in saying that it’s been a tough couple of years managing the effects of Covid 19, MLA not being immune to its effects on employees. However, we have worked through a challenging situation nationally and we are all excited to carry on with business into the future.

What are the biggest challenges facing your business?

The biggest challenges are to continue to be adaptable and evolve our business to meet our customer’s requirements and demands during unprecedented times of change.

What is the biggest opportunity for your business right now?

Our branch in the Hunter has just begun preparations to build a purpose-built facility, which is going to house a full range of the latest equipment, parts and our expansive hire fleet. It’s also going to feature a state-of-the-art workshop further increasing our productivity and reducing timeframes for repairs undertaken in the workshop.

What is the business most proud of?

MLA undoubtedly prides itself on its second to none customer service. If you call us, someone will always be there to answer and respond to your requirements.

Community or other causes close to its heart and values?
MLA supports and fundraises for some incredible causes and community initiatives such as providing an Employee Assistance Program to ensure that employees have access to employee support. Hunter MLA also support the local community through advertising with the Newcastle Knights, as well as supporting International Women’s Day and Men’s mental health through Jersey Day.

Any funny or heartwarming stories to share?

If you were a fly on the wall in our workshop, I am sure there would be many a story to tell, however, these being appropriate to publish, I think they are best left in the workshop.

Any employees that deserve a shout out?

I think we all work as hard as each other and we achieve results by working together as a team, so shout out to all employees of MLA across the country!
