A Plus Contracting and Poly Welding Pty Ltd was established in the Hunter Valley in 2005 by Andrew and Debbie Hughes of Greta. With a strong background in the earthmoving and civil works industries Andrew began the company with a view to servicing the mining industry by offering a professional, cost-effective and comprehensive contracting service. From very humble beginnings, Andrew has grown A-PLUS into one of the most trusted and respected contracting companies operating in the Hunter Valley.
With our professionally maintained, modern fleet of plant and equipment together with our highly motivated and trained staff we offer our valued client’s piece of mind, knowing that their works will be completed on time, on budget and to the highest quality without the worry of downtime or delays.
A Plus Contracting and Poly Welding has become the preferred supplier of contracting services to a wide variety of industries. These include several major Coal Mining Operations, Power Stations, Industrial Estate developers, Wineries and Federal, State & Local Governments as well as several major events held each year throughout the Hunter Valley.
From donating marquees to the local school, supporting both junior and senior sporting teams and championing many local worthy charities, here at A-Plus Contracting we believe in supporting our local community and pride ourselves on making a difference. One of the key organisations that we proudly support is the amazing live saving work carried out by the team at the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. The Rescue Helicopter makes a difference daily within our local community and just like many we all know someone that has had to have a flight on board.
Now some would think that we just hand over a donation each year and that it’s done and dusted for another 12 months. As a matter of fact, it’s far from that. Owner Andrew Hughes regular participates in many of the fundraising events and activities, and before you think it’s all about him socialising at golf days and luncheons, Andrew currently holds the record as the highest fundraiser in the annual Leaders Leap fundraiser. Leaders Leap is an annual event that brings together 20 local business leaders to take the leap off the side of McDonald Jones Stadium by abseiling down. Not wanting to let go of the title too easy Andrew has once again signed up to take the Leap again this coming August. The biggest question within the A-Plus Contracting team is will the Superman costume make a return or will we be seeing another childhood superhero fantasy being lived out?

Another fundraising event for the Rescue Helicopter in which we all love here is the annual Hunter Valley Mining Charity Rugby League Day which we are proud to be the naming rights partner for the past 7 years. This day is like no other in the local area, seeing 300 miners, both men and women, coming together to for a good old fashion rugby league knockout style competition as they represent their respective mine sites for bragging rights of the annual champions. Beginning back in 2014, this event has grown dramatically not only in participants, but the amount of funds raised with a staggering $400,000 raised in such a short time. Despite the impacts of Covid-19 forcing the postponement of last year’s event and then the subsequent cancellation in March due to the weather, we are looking forward to seeing all the action return later this year and know that the Rescue Helicopter events team have put countless hours into to making the event happen in a safe way for everyone. So be sure to purchase your tickets and join us at Pirtek Park Singleton on October 16.
