Man knifed, police car stolen, officers bitten by dogs in crime cavalcade – The Age

Police say it was a miracle that nobody died during series of incidents involving a 27-year-old Mickleham man who sped at up to 200km/h in a stolen police car.

He obviously saw the police car and left the scene very quickly with police in pursuit, said Superintendent Howard. After a chase along Mickleham Road the man lost control, hit the wire barriers along the side of the road and came to a halt.
Superintendent Howard said the police officers drew their guns but then backed off after realising the man was still armed with a knife when they approached him on foot. The man then jumped in the empty police highway patrol car and sped off with lights flashing.
