The Andrews government intends to push its controversial ban on all forms of gay conversion through the state lower house this week before Parliament rises for Christmas, as key crossbench MPs in the upper house commit to backing the laws in a vote early next year.
The unconditional support of three key crossbench politicians means the Andrews government could bypass the Liberal opposition, which is on the fence over the issue of whether the bill infringes religious freedom.
