Central Coast Council faces suspension after $6.2m government bailout – Sydney Morning Herald

The mayor said the council’s “serious liquidity issue” had worsened to the point where more than 2000 staff might not get paid this week.



The NSW government is pushing to suspend the Central Coast Council after it was forced to arrange an emergency payment of $6.2 million to ensure thousands of council staff and suppliers got paid this week.
In a strongly worded statement, Local Government Minister Shelley Hancock said on Wednesday she had to intervene due to the council’s “abject failure to address the consequences of its own financial mismanagement”.
