Boiled water warning lifted for 26 suburbs after contamination scare – The Age

More than a quarter of the nearly 100 Melbourne suburbs cautioned to boil their water due to a contamination scare have been advised it’s now safe to drink.



Water testing is occurring suburb by suburb to ensure it tap water is free from flora that may cause gastroenteritis.
The Silvan Dam one of the main water supplies for the city’s northern and eastern suburbs lost power during a wild wind storm on Thursday and a back-up generator also failed, allowing potentially contaminated water to be pumped into homes.
Electricity restoration and clean-up efforts are likely to be hampered in storm-struck areas of Victoria on Sunday, as gusts of up to 100km …
