The secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment has acknowledged the mistake “impacted very severely” on many people and says changes will be made to prevent a repeat.



ABF Commissioner Michael Outram defended his officer for seeking information outside his responsibilities when he checked the medical test.
“It’s clear that my officers were not working under law or statute in doing what they did but they were showing curiosity and trying to be helpful and I won’t criticise them for that,” Commissioner Outram said.
He said the officer would have “made a phone call” if he had realised the medical test did not clear the passengers.
