The dresses were bought, the suits were hired, but for many year 12s, the school formal is a rite of passage they will no longer get to experience.



For 17-year-old Jaimie, the news about the formal announced on the same day as the Higher School Certificate (HSC) trial English exam has been gutting.
At first, she thought reports of the ban were a hoax. “I really didn’t want to believe it. I have been so excited for it since kindy,” she says.
