The number of COVID-19 cases confirmed worldwide has passed 16.5 million, and there have been more than 650,000 deaths from the virus.



Australian Medical Association President Tony Bartone has said the benefit of more feet on the ground will outweigh teething issues as new health workers are brought into aged care facilities in Victoria to cover staff shortages.
Speaking on ABC television, Dr Bartone said while issues may arise due to new carers not knowing the residents or facilities in which they are working, a surge workforce was the “critical missing part of the puzzle” to Australia’s management of aged care outbreaks.
