Meat industry staff refuse to return to work over COVID-19 safety fears – The Age

Cold store workers at a meat plant in Melbourne’s west refused to return to work this morning. The union says they are ‘getting wise to the way these companies think’ and are fighting for their safety.

It is one of a number of outbreaks in the Victorian meat industry including 95 cases at Somerville Retail Services in Tottenham, 69 cases at Bertocchi Smallgoods in Thomastown and 47 cases linked to the Australian Lamb Company in Colac.
United Workers Union Victorian secretary Susie Allison said JBS had failed to support its workers and provided inadequate communication about safety.
