Wearing a face covering will be made compulsory for people out in public in coronavirus-hit Melbourne and the adjacent Mitchell Shire from 11:59pm on Wednesday.
It’s caused a rush of people to go out and buy face masks because, if you’re caught not wearing one in public, it’ll be a $200 fine.
Our Melbourne reporter, Elias Clure, said there were long gueues outside shops yesterday and Sunday, and lots of people outside fabric stores likely trying to buy material to make their own.
