Arriving at this scene was unlike anything we have experienced as paramedics, Ambulance NSW inspector David Kynaston said in a statement.
Its extremely difficult for paramedics and other emergency services to be confronted with such carnage. It was a very traumatic scene with obviously a lot of chaos.
The 44-year-old male truck driver was not injured and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
Traffic stretched for at least 12km following the incident as drivers were urged to avoid the area.
A crime scene has been established and will be examined by specialist police from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.
