Supporting the Service

This year the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service marks 20 years flying out of Tamworth. Throughout this time, the mining industry has provided substantial financial support to the service.

The employees of Whitehaven Coal at Narrabri Coal Operations are among the many miners who donate regularly to the service through the Workplace Giving program. Many new workers chose to join their colleagues in contributing to the Service, increasing their annual contributions by over $15,000.

WRHS Community Liaison Officer Daniel Gillett recently spent time with NCO employees and contractors, sharing uplifting stories about what a difference their donation makes.

“Whitehaven Coal provide vital support to our Service, helping ensure that we are ready to respond 24/7 from our three bases,” said Daniel.

“Out here, the community sticks together, and there is no better example of that than the men and women who donate a little money each pay to keep the chopper flying. We’re proud to be a community-owned charity, and the miners here help us to assist those in need.”

Part of Daniel’s time onsite included a visit to the production area of the underground mine.

“It gave me a real sense of how hard the miners work, and how much camaraderie there is underground. It was a privilege to be invited into that workspace and even better to know that we shared the same community spirit.”
