Live Life Get Active has received a $10,000 donation from Komatsu thanks to Singleton resident Karen Garnham.

The Live Life Get Active program was established in 2014 with the goal of building a fitter, healthier and happier Australia. It now boasts more than 150 branches across Australia with one right here in Singleton. It offers free health, fitness and nutritional education both online and in your local park by employing local sports trainers and coaches and engaging with councils and local businesses.

“Live Life Get Active changed my life.” Karen told us. “I started the first camp 3 years ago. I came along because I wanted to feel better about myself, and the more I got involved the better I started feeling. To have the support of the group is what makes all the difference.”

Karen is theRegional Component Planner atKomatsu in Singleton and applied for a grant from her company in a program called ‘Live Your Dream’ which encourages staff to support community programs.

“I’ve been at Komatsu for 19 years and I applied for the grant by telling them how Live Life Get Active had changed my life, how it has helped the community, and how it’s even made me a better employee. For them to donate $10,000 to the program is so wonderful.”

Commonwealth Games heptathlete gold medalist Jane Flemming is one of the founding members of Live Life Get Active and recently visited Singleton to talk to the branch members and inspire new ones.

“The program has been a massive amount of work, but we have now launched 152 camps across Australia and we are in lots of rural areas like Singleton.” Jane said. “Our vision is to be in 1000 communities across Australia within 5 years and to make a true social impact by improving the health and wellbeing of thousands of people.”

Each branch exists because of local business support and it’s generous donations by companies like Komatsu that keep the program growing. All the exercise classes are free to everyone in the community and sessions include yoga, boxing and cross training.

Singleton sessions are held at Rose Point Park and all are welcome to come along. It’s as simple as getting on their website and registering.
