It’s time to get ready for the smell of Dencorub and the
sight of old washed up footballers sweating it out in the
name of charity. Team nominations are now open for the
October 13 charity rugby match!
This year is already set to surpass prior years with potentially 20 teams
showing interest in the men’s competition plus 2 women’s representative
teams.
"Things are well underway and if the enthusiasm from the pit this year is
anything to go by, we are in for a big day," said Event Organiser Danny
Eather. "We've had interest from Moolarben, Ulan and Bengalla this year and
I know a few of the teams have put the challenge out to Mangoola to field a
side again."
In the years gone by a total of $207,000 has been raised to keep the
Angels in the air. Last year alone $80,000 was raised and this year the
challenge has been put out to the mines to go one better.
The day is a fully inclusive day and isn’t limited to just players. The whole
community is encouraged to come down for a fun filled day, and let’s be
honest, plenty of laughs.
"A lot of ideas are now transitioning to plans for off the field fun. There will be
a kid’s challenge, though I can’t disclose more until closer. Also planned is a
dash for cash, with the fastest from each team nominated for a sprint race.”
Danny said.
"But I think the most popular idea has to be dunk the boss." Danny said with a
laugh. “What better way to raise money then to have a boss from each pit
take a turn on the drop chair to raise some money." That sounds like a brilliant
plan to us Danny! I can see the 2ways abuzz with who to nominate for that
one!
