Blue is Better

Komatsu and Cummins have joined forces to supply blue painted engine modules to Komatsu 830E haul trucks to Bengalla Mine in support of Beyond Blue.

To celebrate, a fundraising BBQ was held onsite raising money via gold coin donations and a raffle with all proceeds going to the cause.

The QSK60 MCRS Advantageengine itself represents several years of development and delivers the latest in emission reduction with a 63% reduction in diesel particulate matter compared to the standard engines that came with the trucks.

During proceedings it was highlighted that 1 in 5 people in the mining industry suffer depression, which is much higher than the population average of 1 in 7.

Jason Linke, the Mining Business Manager for Cummins said on the day, “We are proud to join with Komatsu today to launch this program. We hope that the blue engine serves as a reminder to all who work on the truck and operate it to be on the lookout for signs of depression or distress amongst colleagues or if they are struggling themselves.”

Despite the upbeat mood on the day, the whole team was very passionate and serious about the cause with some opening up about personal stories that have affected loved ones. Clearly, it’s a subject close to everyone’s hearts and an important initiative to get off the ground.

Here @ The Coalface we regularly see examples and hear stories about the struggle and applaud all involved on helping to keep the conversation top of mind.
